Is It Common to Have Watery Discharge In Early Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is the time covered with all kinds of expectations and anxieties, especially if it is your first pregnancy. There are any numbers of unanswered questions regarding this condition. What should I eat? What should I avoid? How much should I have to eat? etc. Sort of questions arise in our minds which are obvious too. Like other questions and concerns, women are also concerned of any kind of discharge during pregnancy. Its nothing new to have vaginal watery discharge however it has become a very common complaint from pregnant women. Still there could be other factors that a watery discharge in early pregnancy would signify.
Clear Water Discharge in Early Pregnancy
Clear watery vaginal discharge during early pregnancy, where the discharge fluid is transparent with no color is quite a common finding. To explain this phenomenon, there are many details that have been set forth. There is a sudden surge in the levels of estrogen hormone when a woman becomes pregnant. This sudden rise in the hormone leads to an increased blood-flow in the vaginal area, which in turn increases the secretions in this area. This vaginal discharge helps to keep fungal infections at bay as the cervix swells. In most cases, the discharge is white during pregnancy, which is usually odourless and colorless.
Brown Watery Discharge in Early Pregnancy
The implantation bleeding is the most common cause for brown discharge during early stages of pregnancy. During ovulation, that is as the body prepares for the possibility of pregnancy the lining of the uterus becomes thick because of the increased supply of blood through the network of blood vessels. As the fertilization takes place, the fertilized egg then burrows itself in the uterus-wall and this is how the implantation takes place. Hence, during the burrowing process, there are possibilities that some of the superficial blood vessels break and its leaks out that leads to implantation bleeding during early stages of pregnancy. This happens as conception goes on at early stages.
At times, this brown watery discharge could be gradual, minimal or may go on for a few days. In such cases, there is no need to be worried as this is the time for fetus' active growth. So, a slight discharge need not be a concern. Sometimes, there is old blood that lines the uterus and they get released in the form of discharge from the vaginal area when the body does not need this blood. Brown discharge can be considered as normal during pregnancy towards the end of the first trimester or when the first eight weeks are over. However, you must consult the doctor and get your condition evaluated if you experience brown spotting or heavy flow even after the first trimester.
At times there are possibilities to notice some pink watery discharge along with brown discharge during early pregnancy. When you notice this brown and pink discharge a lot with cramping, then this might be a sign of ectopic pregnancy. This ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants itself in a place other than the uterine lining. This could lead to complications and put the health of the baby and mother at risk. Though this condition is not a common occurrence, one must need to visit the doctor even if you do not have heavy discharge but severe cramping. In conclusion, I would put it in this way: watery discharge during early pregnancy is not a concern to worry, if it continues heavy and dark accompanied by other said symptoms, then you need to go to the doctor immediately and have your condition diagnosed for treatment.
